November 2006

A Needs Assessment of Classroom Resources, Budgetary Spending, Technology, and Professional Development

Sponsored by the National Art Education Association (NAEA) and Art21, Inc.

Art21 has partnered with the National Art Education Association (NAEA) to determine educator familiarity, use, and needs in relation to contemporary visual art in the classroom. In addition, this survey addresses access to resources that support use of contemporary art in the classroom, budgets and spending for curricular resources, access to and use of technology, and professional development.

Your contribution to this research is essential. You will represent teachers from your state and instructional level. The results of this survey will inform NAEA about ways to further support educators and students and will influence the development of new materials and resources.

A summary report of this survey will be compiled for the NAEA, but individual responses will remain anonymous. We hope that you will take this opportunity to provide candid responses that reflect the realities, challenges, and opportunities of the field.

Please take 10-15 minutes to answer the following questions. If you have questions or concerns about this survey, please contact Jessica Hamlin, Director of Education, Art21, Inc., 286 Spring Street, Suite 405, New York, NY 10013; phone: (212) 741-7133; email: jess@art21.org

To thank you for your time, five respondents will be randomly selected to receive contemporary visual resources, including books, DVDs, and visual images to support classroom instruction.

We ask that all surveys be completed by Friday, January 5, 2007.
