As of March 12, Art21 is looking to fill two positions: Web Manager and Program Coordinator.
Art21 is a non-profit contemporary art organization dedicated to introducing a large national, and increasingly international, audience to contemporary artists working in the United States today. Art21 produces the Emmy-nominated primetime PBS series, Art:21—Art in the Twenty-First Century; extensive free educational resources and public programs; companion books published by Harry N. Abrams; and the websites www.pbs.org/art21, www.art21.org (in development), blog.art21.org, as well as ancillary sites like Youtube, Flickr, Facebook, MySpace, and Del.icio.us.

Web Manager

Art21, Inc. seeks a full-time Web Manager responsible for the planning, maintenance, and management of Art21's websites and online projects. The Web Manager will ensure the consistency of Art21's online presence and work to achieve the organization’s mission. This position reports to Art21’s Director of Public Programs. It is a challenging and deadline-driven one within a supportive and collaborative work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain Art21 websites and administer the content management system. In collaboration with various Art21 departments, make sure content (rich-media and text) is up-to-date on all websites and ancillary sites.
• Coordinate the production of all different content streams (text, images, video), to be supplied for the upcoming launch of the redesigned Art21 website.
• Oversee addition of video (and soon audio) components to all websites and ancillary sites, including any related licensing agreements and rights issues.
• Plan content and features with other departments and web developers.
• Program and/or design content and images when necessary (i.e. e-newsletters, e-campaigns, and blogging).
• Build alliances with other websites.
• Act as liaison with PBS Interactive, Art21’s web developers, and contractors as necessary; manage timeline and deliverables.
• Ensure all independent contractors perform work on time and on budget.
• Oversee all technical aspects of Art21 websites; monitor their performance.
• Monitor site statistics; prepare monthly reports.
• Maintain record of website expenses and create budgets for new web projects.
• Manage relationship with web hosting company.
• Keep track of domain name licenses.

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess:
• BA/BFA/BS in the arts, new media, or related field; MA/MFA degrees encouraged.
• 4 years minimum web production experience.
• Experience with online content management tools.
• Proficiency in web production—including photo manipulation, graphics creation, and advanced HTML, PHP, and CSS. Adobe Flash a plus.
• Proficiency with video and other new media content; familiarity with video editing and compression software for streaming.
• Experience with online social networking platforms.
• Experience with web analytics.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills.
• Strong communication and good writing skills.
• An entrepreneurial spirit and knowledge of and passion for contemporary art are strongly encouraged.

Program Coordinator

Art21, Inc. seeks a highly-motivated, self-directed individual to play a key role in our Public Programs department as the Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator supports the planning, implementation, maintenance, and documentation of Art21's public programs and educational initiatives. S/he reports to Art21’s Director of Public Programs and also works closely with the Web Manager. This position will commence on a part-time, 3 day/week contract basis, with the potential to evolve into a full-time, permanent position with benefits following a six-month review period. It is a challenging and deadline-driven position, within a supportive and collaborative work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Liaise and support all education and programming partners worldwide; tracking and reporting partners’ activities.
• Coordinate all public programs and document all local ones, including Art21’s current series of screenings and discussions at the New York Public Library and others.
• Write content for www.pbs.org/art21 and www.art21.org (coming soon).
• Contribute posts to Art21’s blog on a regular basis.
• Provide research and program assistance for Art21’s upcoming traveling video art screening series.
• Facilitate additional outreach programs, including Library Engagement and others.
• Research upcoming Art21 artists’ exhibitions.
• Coordinate and maintain Art21’s presence on ancillary websites.
• Prepare and distribute all email newsletters and other publicity materials.
• Field and filter all email inquiries and materials requests.
• Organize audience surveys from design and implementation to reporting.
• Conference research and related materials prep.
• Help out with Art21’s special projects as needed.
• Coordinate travel arrangements.
• Hire and supervise interns.

While this is primarily an administrative position, the job requirements can expand to include creative tasks when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess:
• BA/BFA in the arts or related field, MA/MFA candidates encouraged.
• 2-3 years related experience in arts administration and/or arts education, public programming, community outreach, and online engagement (this is not an entry-level position).
• Superior organizational ability and attention to detail.
• Outstanding writing, communication, and research skills.
• Excellent computer skills (Art21 is a Mac environment) and knowledge of/comfort with social networking media.
• Familiarity with web publishing tools, Photoshop, and other graphics editing software (Adobe Creative Suite).
• Ability to work effectively and multi-task in a fast-paced atmosphere.
• Flexibility and commitment to work longer hours when necessary.
• Willing, can-do attitude.
• Diligence, enthusiasm, and responsible character.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and knowledge of/passion for contemporary art strongly encouraged.
